Tarndie Farm Tours
During Wool Gathering we are privileged to be able to learn about the history of our beautiful venue and meet and greet its woolly inhabitants.
Tarndie History Tour
During Registration on Thursday afternoon take the first of your farm tours – The History of Tarndie. Tom Dennis, the current (6th generation) owner of Tarndie, will guide you around the Homestead grounds and tell you its fabulous history. Learn who settled the land, where they came from and the trials and tribulations they faced throughout the journey. Do make sure Tom tells you how party guests saved the Homestead from being destroyed by bush fires!
Fleece to Yarn Tour
Since we’re on the farm it seems only logical to have a tractor ride don’t you think? Well, lucky you are in for a treat! We are mixing it up a bit for 2018 and giving you a tractor/trailer ride! Yep, Tom will transport you another area of the farm in all the dubious luxury of a trailer pulled by a tractor and introduce you to the sheep. Polwarth fleece makes beautiful yarn and this is your chance to get up close and personal with it ‘on the sheep’s back’. Learn about paddock rotation and different grasses and all kinds of ‘sheep farmy’ things! Of course, Tarndie is where Polwarth sheep were bred, so listen to the story of how and why. This tour is one of the very unique and special offerings at Wool Gathering. Don’t forget to bring your ‘paddock shoes’. Oh ….. and like the tough outdoors man that he is ….. Tom says we ride in wind, rain or sunshine!!
