Throughout the year we run fun online events that everyone can participate in. Generally, these are knit-a-long (KAL) and crochet-a-long (CAL) events conducted through our Ravelry Group – Wool Gathering Australia. Our annual KAL’s are the Kanga Kiwi KAL, the Make Winter Warm for Others KAL and the It’s New To Me KAL. The dates vary slightly each year so make sure to check them out! And, every now and then we’ll run one off events for added extra thrills and spills!!
Kanga Kiwi KAL
The Kanga Kiwi KAL is a celebration of all things Australian and New Zealand. We have wonderfully talented designers, yarn producers, indie dyers and retail stores down in our southern part of the world and this KAL reminds us to look to them for our knitting and crochet inspiration.
The KAL is generally run throughout February and into mid March of each year and is supported by very generous local sponsors. Check out all the nitty gritty details and 2018 dates.
Make Winter Warm for Others CAL/KAL
This CAL/KAL is all about adding warmth to those who need it to help them get through the cold months of winter. It was inspired by our first guest speaker at the inaugural Wool Gathering Annual Retreat, Donna Stolzenberg from The Melbourne Period Project, who spoke to us about the difficulties many people face. Donna’s organisation/s helps those living on the streets, women and children in difficult circumstances and children needing help with basic school necessities.
This CAL/KAL is all about adding warmth to those who need it to help them get through the cold months of winter and is generally run throughout May and June of each year and is supported by designers offering patterns that are appropriate for the intended recipients. Check out all the nitty gritty details.
It’s New To Me KAL/CAL
The It’s New To Me KAL/CAL is all about learning – challenging yourself and trying something new. That could be a new yarn, a new stitch, a new technique, a new pattern, a new designer or a new type of project. Maybe you’ve never knitted a sweater or cardigan, maybe you’ve never knitted socks. Maybe you’re a knitter who has always wanted to try crochet. Or maybe you’ve never knitted with alpaca or a rare breed yarn. Now’s your time!
The KAL/CAL is generally run throughout October and into mid November of each year and is supported by very generous local sponsors. Check out all the nitty gritty details.
