Tarndwarncoort

affectionately known as Tarndie

beautiful, historic, charming, graceful

Tarndwarncoort is the beautiful venue where we are privileged to hold Wool Gathering events. Situated in the Otway region of Victoria, approximately one and a half hours outside of Melbourne, Tarndie is one of Victoria’s oldest surviving homesteads, and is the continuation of one of Australia’s oldest family farms. Today, the Dennis family still grow Polwarth wool and invite us to share their farm’s bucolic and serene setting during our events.

The wool grown on the farm is turned into beautiful craft wools including tops for felting and yarn for knitting and crochet. It is truly ‘single origin’ yarn, from Australia’s first breed of sheep. Polwarth natural coloured wool is a dream to spin and to knit and crochet into soft and enduring items. Natural colours range from white through the silver greys, mid to dark greys and black and browns from tan to chocolate. Beautiful hand dyed hues are available to purchase from the farm gate store. And the gorgeously dyed Origins range has colours chosen for their relevance to Tarndie’s history.

Classes will be held in the Homestead in charming rooms filled with treasures of yesteryear.  Sit in deep and comfortable armchairs while you partake of crafts that have withstood the challenges of modern technology.  Or snuggle into the warmth of the Apple Store – where the original apple press is still in evidence. The Dye Studio is ready and waiting!! And …. for the Annual Retreat 2018 we’ll even be in the shearing shed!
